- An engine and front light harness featuring extra-long leads to facilitate custom routing and compatibility with updated engine and transmission combinations, along with original-style bulkhead connectors.
- A six-way power accessory plug for convenient integration of aftermarket accessories.
- Rear body wiring with extra-long leads to support custom routing.
- A 175-amp mega fuse kit with 6-gauge charge cable to accommodate high-output charging systems and internally regulated alternators.
- Original-replacement connectors, terminals, and lamp sockets.
- A headlight switch equipped with a 26-amp internal circuit breaker and a new floor dimmer switch.
- Dash harness compatibility with 1969 and later GM steering column connectors, including a mating connector and terminals for adaptation to popular late-model columns.

Integration of Dakota Digital RTX Instruments and Gear Shift Sending Unit

Key features include over 30 user-selectable color options for needles, sweeps, and displays; full LED backlighting with RGB customization; performance meters such as 0-60 MPH timers, quarter-mile elapsed times, and trap speeds; and built-in indicators for turn signals, high beam, check engine, and more. The system employs a central control box for streamlined installation and setup, with configuration available via pushbutton controls or a mobile application.
Complementing the RTX instruments, the Dakota Digital Universal Gear Shift Sending Unit (GSS-3000) was incorporated. This compact unit relays transmission gear position to the instrument cluster and is compatible with common GM automatic transmissions, including TH350, TH400, 700R4, and 4L60/70/80 series. It provides built-in outputs for reverse lights (up to 15 amps) and a neutral safety switch (via the supplied 30-amp relay), along with stainless steel and aluminum mounting hardware for straightforward integration.
Installation Process and Specific Adaptations
The project encompassed a full rewire of the 1971 Chevelle, ensuring seamless integration of all new components. A primary challenge involved the factory air conditioning system, which the standard American Autowire harness does not directly accommodate. To resolve this, the 1971 anti-diesel and blocking relays were bypassed. The procedure required unplugging both relays and installing a jumper between the tan and blue leads of the anti-diesel relay, as illustrated in the accompanying wiring diagram.
It should be noted that the Dakota Digital RTX system does not include the dash lights dimmer switch, which must be procured separately to enable full control of display brightness.
